Erection Pills, Implants & Pumps

Oral Medications

There are numerous medicines available by shot (or orally) that can improve your ED symptoms temporarily but they do not heal your problem. Instead, they provide a transitory fix and establish a basis for a lifetime of prescription dependence. That’s not healthy and it’s expensive and time consuming. Common pills include Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and over the counter medications.

Penile Implants: The Pro’s & Con’s

As for penile implants, they are an end of the road and once done there are no other alternatives. You are stuck with a mechanical device with its own issue so they last 3-7 years and they must be replaced. As you continue getting surgery you’ll continue to lose size. An implant replaces the sponge in the penis with a silicone water filled device with a pump in your scrotum. Once you get an implant you cannot go the other way. People usually jump to implants because they’ve taken medicines that don’t work so they just want to be healed. Presently four basic types of implants are available: the semi-rigid malleable prosthesis, the simple self-contained inflatable prosthesis, and the more complex two and three piece inflatable prostheses. Semi-rigid malleable implants are relatively simple devices, and the first implants to be used on a large scale. Most incorporate rods made of an inert plastic material. When one is surgically placed into the penis, a permanent erection results. The penis and implant can be bent down close to the body so that it will not be noticed under most clothing. When intercourse is desired the penis is merely straightened. The main advantages are cost and surgical procedure, which is much simpler. The main disadvantage is the permanent erection. The simple self-contained inflatable implant consists of two cylinders that are inserted entirely within the penis. Each cylinder contains an inert hydraulic fluid. When an erection is desired it is easily obtained by squeezing the end of each rode located near the front of the penis. The erection can be eliminated by bending the penis at its base or by pressing the relief valves within the mechanism. This offers the advantage of an erection that can be controlled at will. A possible disadvantage is that it doesn’t provide a particularly full erection, compared to other inflatable implants, as there is not increase in the length or girth of the penis. Another disadvantage is that at times the device ma deactivate on its own during intercourse. The two piece inflatable implant contains two basic elements, two parallel hollow cylinders that are surgically placed in the penis and a bulb shaped chamber containing both a reservoir for the hydraulic fluid and a pump which is placed within the scrotum. A major advantage is that it provides a more naturally appearing erection and it does not necessitate the surgical placement of a hydraulic reservoir in the lower abdominal cavity as the three piece inflatable implant does. The biggest disadvantage is that it is more surgically advance and there are more parts to possible malfunction.

Inflatable Implants

Three piece inflatable implants contain three basic elements. The first consists of two parallel hollow cylinders that are placed within the penis. The second is a pump and valve mechanism that is placed within the scrotum close to the testicles. The third is a spherical reservoir containing hydraulic fluid that is placed inside the lower abdomen. Three tubes entirely inside the body connect the reservoir to the pump and the pump to each cylinder. This device is inflated by squeezing the pumping mechanism inside the scrotum a number of times which results in fluid moving into the cylinders. When the erection is no longer desired it’s easily deactivated by compressing the release valve on the side of the pump. The fluid then returns to the reservoir and the erection disappears. This offers the advantage of maximum control and the most authentic erection in terms of added penis length and increase girth. The disadvantages are higher cost and more involved surgical procedure. Also since the device is more complex there is a greater possibility of malfunction.

Vacuum Pumps

When a flaccid penis is surrounded by a vacuum, blood is drawn into the erectile tissues and the penis will grow in size and rigidity resulting in an erection. External vacuum devices have gained in medical respectability and such devices are now recognized as a possibly effective ED treatment option for some men. The better devices today are obtained only by medical prescription. External vacuum devices provide a simple and relatively inexpensive way of obtaining an erection. Disadvantages are complaints that sometimes the erections obtained aren’t of sufficient rigidity for satisfactory intercourse. Other complaints include impaired ejaculation and discomfort in use.
